The Design and Construction Industry is currently experiencing a significant advance in technology support and capabilities through the advent of Building Information Modeling. BIM involves advanced software applications that identify each building system and component as a multi-dimensional object with attributes and characteristics that can be used to create a virtual, and highly accurate, three dimensional representation of the building. This allows significantly greater collaboration, communications, project understanding, and documentation for planning, design, construction, and building operations.
As an innovative and interactive tool, the BIM Model is capable of interfacing with other software applications to provide highly accurate construction documents, construction schedules, cost estimating, purchasing, and inventory control. The data contained within the interdisciplinary models can be analyzed for better coordination, code compliance, and conflict analysis prior to confronting these challenges in the field. The information can also be used for product fabrication and manufacturing.
Forrester Construction Company has recognized the real value to our Clients and the Industry in the effective use of BIM Models from design through construction. We have initiated pilot programs for major projects in 2007 and are moving towards full BIM Applications of all our Projects by 2010.
