This project involved the interior build-out
of a five-story, 110,000 SF building for the American Speech, Hearing, and
Language Association’s new national headquarters.
The new facility includes a conference center, fitness center, server room,
and standard office configurations.
The building was originally designed to be a
Silver LEED ™ green building, but Gold Certification is currently pending.
ASHA is the first 501(c)(6) association to have a green building in Maryland
history. This new national office has various sustainable design features
including:
-
A design that maximizes the amount of
daylight into the building to reduce the need for lighting
-
A system for collecting mechanical
condensate water for irrigation
-
Paints, carpets, and bamboo woods with
low-emitting finishes
-
Lavatory systems, including showers and
toilets that reduce water usage
-
Landscaping with drought resistant
vegetation
-
An HVAC Energy Management system with
dimmers and all work stations on timers that, together with higher
efficiency glass and lower energy light fixtures, will yield a 23%
energy savings
-
A white-colored roof that will reduce
cooling costs by more than 50%
-
A copy center with an exhaust system that
will keep fumes from the rest of the building
