Columbia Heights Community Center
Washington, DC

Architect: Leo A. Daly
Size: 60,000 SF
Schedule:  18 months

The Columbia Heights Community Center was commissioned by the D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) as part of a planned neighborhood redevelopment.  This new four-story building consists of a multi-faced program including community recreation space and administrative offices dedicated to the DPR.

The community recreation space includes a state-of-the-art gymnasium, dance studio, exercise room, computer labs, theatrical stage, library, and culinary arts studio.  In addition to the DPR offices located on the top floor, the building will also allocate space to other non-profit organizations in the neighborhood.

The building was built for LEED Certification and features a green roof system.  The exterior of the building includes a combination of curtainwall, storefront, and masonry.

Despite various challenges related to utility services, permits, and inspections, all of which were outside of the project team's control, this project was completed two weeks ahead of schedule.
