As part of Washington, DC's Capital Parks Improvement Project initiative, the Department of Parks and Recreation replaced the existing King Greenleaf structure with a state-of-the-art facility that includes an indoor gymnasium, multi-purpose rooms, exercise room, shower facilities, locker rooms and learning centers.
The site improvements include parking facilities, a new half basketball court and play area.
The site was also upgraded with ornamental fencing and new fencing around the basketball / tennis courts and baseball / football fields. These areas were also upgraded with outside lighting.
Project challenges included the coordination of public space permits for work to be done on the neighbor's front yard and the steel installation in coordination with the pre-manufactured panel installation, due to the arch of the roof and slant of the storefront glazing.
