October 14, 2009 - Forrester Construction has been awarded the $12 Million E.L. Haynes Public Charter School - High School Expansion (LEED™ Silver). This project will involve three phases of construction.
Phase I will involve renovations to a 50,000 SF existing building, formerly Clark Elementary, including demolition, full replacement of the existing roof, façade improvements, new MEP systems (including central HVAC and new electrical equipment), utility upgrades, a new sprinkler system, ADA upgrades, the addition of bathrooms at the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classrooms, and new finishes throughout.
Phase II will include a 19,000 SF addition to house a gymnasium and associated shower / locker facilities, a cafeteria with kitchen, science and art classrooms, and administrative offices.
Phase III will involve site improvements including utility upgrades to support the new loads; new site and field lighting; a complete re-grading of the fields; and the addition of a soccer field, two basketball courts, and a ball field.
The project is anticipated to receive LEED™ Silver Certification. This is Forrester’s second project with E.L. Haynes. Forrester completed the first E.L. Haynes School at 3600 Georgia Avenue in March, 2008. The Architect is Shinberg.Levinas Architectural Design of Bethesda, MD. Construction is scheduled to begin in March 2010 and finish in December 2010.
