Minimally Invasive Vascular Centers Opens New Location in Laurel, Maryland

MIVC AND FORRESTER CONSTRUCTION CELEBRATE THE GRAND OPENING OF NEW SURGERY FACILITY

Tuesday, April 24, 2018 – Rockville, MD – Minimally Invasive Vascular Centers (MIVC) of Maryland is opening a new surgical facility in Laurel, Maryland on Thursday, May 3rd.  MIVC and their partners, including Forrester Construction, are celebrating with a three-day grand opening celebration to mark the conclusion of a very successful project.

Each day of the celebration will highlight a different aspect of the center’s work.

On Thursday, May 3rd, MIVC will welcome healthcare industry representatives from across Prince George’s County including physicians, hospital administrators and healthcare service providers.

The following day, Friday, May 4th, will focus on the center’s past, current and prospective patients with facility tours, vascular health education and an overview of services.

On Saturday, May 5th, the center is opening the facility to the community in appreciation of their support of the project. Both Friday and Saturday are focused on celebrating with food trucks, music and dancing.

The new vascular surgery center addresses a critical need for more healthcare facilities in Prince George’s County. MIVC”s goal is to offer minimally invasive treatment with an emphasis on patient education, early diagnosis, non-invasive treatment, prevention and maintenance. The center provides a variety of minimally invasive and open procedures to address vascular disease and prevent devastating events such as limb loss, stroke, varicose veins, female pelvic pain, uterine fibroids, vascular related erectile dysfunction, aneurysm repair, kidney failure, peripheral arterial disease or even premature death.

There are 6 Board Certified Vascular and General Surgeons who have joined MIVC in this mission.  “This center is much needed and will hopefully save many lives. There are far too many people in this community who are suffering from complications related to uncontrolled high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol and excessive weight gain which all lead to the vascular devastation™ that is rampant in our community,” says Dr. Jeffery Dormu.

MIVC chose Forrester Construction early in the process to provide preconstruction and general contracting services. “Partnerships are the cornerstone of our business strategy.  Partnering with Forrester Construction has transformed a general contract into a relationship that has made history. We look forward to our next project with Forrester Construction. We could not have asked for better partners,” Wendy Muhammad, President and Director of Business Affairs.

Construction involved building a brand new structure from the ground up at the intersection of Cherry Lane and MD 197. The metal panel, aluminum and glass exterior has a contemporary design. Inside, this modern medical facility features a number of exam rooms, an operating theatre, ultrasound and procedure rooms and a recovery area. It also offers amenities like a juice bar, unique art and an open concept floor plan.

The building is also expected to earn LEED Silver Certification for its inclusion of sustainable design elements like its green roof, lighting controls, and optimized energy performance.

In addition to addressing the healthcare needs of residents, the center also serves an important purpose for the Prince George’s County economy. During construction, Rockville-based Forrester Construction used many local subcontractors and suppliers. Once it is fully operational, the facility expects to employ more than 100 area residents.

Forrester’s President Steve Houff remarks “this project is very representative of what Forrester is all about. We are a local company with long-standing roots in the DC Area. This project is all about relationships and supporting the community. We have been very fortunate to have a fantastic relationship with MIVC, and being able to apply what we do as a general contractor to support their mission and our community. It doesn’t get much better.  We look forward to the great services that Dr. Dormu, Wendy and the entire MIVC team will provide to the community.”
