Landon School, Bethesda, MD

July 30, 2008 – Forrester Construction Company‘s Education Group has been awarded the Landon School in Bethesda, MD. The Landon School is an independent, non-sectarian boys’ day school, which has an enrollment of 675 students.

This $6 million project will involve a 56,000 SF interior gut and renovation of the existing Barton Alumni Center. The renovation will include two gymnasiums, office spaces, equipment rooms, locker rooms, athletic training rooms, high–end lobby, and new MEP systems. In addition, the roof will be raised in sections and new entrances will be added to the facility.

The Owner’s Representative is Brailsford & Dunlavey of Washington, DC and the Architect is Chatelain Architects of Washington, DC. Construction is scheduled to begin in November, 2008 and take approximately nine months.

Zola Wine Store and Test Kitchen, Washington, DC

July 8, 2008 – Forrester Construction has been awarded the Zola Wine Store and Test Kitchen on 9th Street, NW in Washington, DC. This project will involve a 3,000 SF interior build-out for a new wine store and test kitchen. The test kitchen will be used for training of Zola restaurant staff, cooking classes, private parties, etc.

High end finishes and features include wood flooring, ceramic wall tile, custom millwork, stone and concrete countertops, custom wine rack systems, and a wine wall with “spy” holes. The Owner is Star Restaurant Group of Washington, DC and the Architect is Adamstein & Demetriou of Washington, DC. Construction is scheduled to take four months.

Walker Jones School, Washington, DC

July 2, 2008 – Forrester Construction Company’s Education Group has been awarded the $36 Million Walker Jones School in Washington, DC. This will be the fastest new public school built in the history of the District of Columbia. The project will include the demolition of two existing schools- Terrell Junior High School and Walker Jones Elementary School and construction of a new 100,000 SF Pre-K-8 school, 5,000 SF public library, and 20,000 SF public recreation center. All three components will be housed in one new four-story U-shaped building.

The facility will be built for LEED™ Certification and will include a green roof. New playing fields, surface parking, and landscaping will also be provided. The site is located in Northwest Washington, DC on the block bounded by New Jersey Avenue, Pierce Street, 1st Street, and L Street. This will be the first major project to be implemented as part of the District’s Northwest One Master Plan. The new facility will be jointly managed by the District of Columbia Public Schools, the District of Columbia Department of Parks and Recreation, and the District of Columbia Public Library.

Forrester began construction in March 2008, with the School portion to be occupied in August 2009 and the Library and Recreation Center portions to follow. The owner is the District of Columbia Public Schools and the Owner’s Representative are Banneker Associates and Regan Associates, LLC. The Architect is Hord Coplan Macht, Inc of Baltimore, MD.

Founding Farmers Restaurant Project, Washington, DC

June 25, 2008 – Forrester Construction has begun construction on the new Founding Farmers restaurant project, which will open at 1924 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW in the newest IMF building in Washington, DC. A concept developed by a collective of more than 40,000 American family farmers, Founding Farmers is more than 8,000 SF and is based around sustainable design, green operations, and food that is seasonally sourced from regional and local farms. Slated to open in September ‘08, the soaring space will seat more than 250, with a variety of seating options from community tables to circular booths and bar and café seats, and a patio slated for spring 2009.

The menu will include a wide variety of home-cooked inspired dishes with influences from farm cooking and global agricultural influences. Founding Farmers has been designed to be the first LEED Certified restaurant in the Washington, DC area and will also function as a green restaurant as sanctioned by the Green Restaurant Association. Distinguishing design and construction features include the use of reclaimed wood for the flooring and for millwork, custom metal and mesh guardrails along the mezzanine level made with recycled steel, a two-story wood portal made of reclaimed barn wood, an expansive concrete topped bar with a faux-finished wood face, a pastry bar on the mezzanine level, stone flooring, an elevator with custom paneling, and glass and steel shelving units behind the bar to showcase preserved fruits, vegetables, and other farm-sourced ingredients.

Vucurevich Simons Advisory Group (www.VSAG.com), with offices in both Maryland and Texas, developed the concept and will operate and manage Founding Farmers and CORE Architecture + Design of Washington, DC created the design. Initial construction began in April 2008 and is scheduled to finish August 2008.

Woodward Restaurant, Washington, DC

June 11, 2008 – Forrester Construction has been awarded Woodward Restaurant located in Washington, DC. This 11,000 SF project will involve the construction of a 175-seat Old World Italian Restaurant, Bakery/Sandwich Shop, and Wine Store in the historical Woodward Building at 15th and H Streets, NW.

High end finishes will include custom millwork, ornamental metals, decorative glass, wood paneling and flooring, mosaic and stone tile, and zinc bar countertop. The owner is the Star Restaurant Group of Washington, DC and the architect is CORE of Washington, DC.

H. Carl Moultrie Courthouse/ Indiana Avenue Entrance Renovation, Washington, DC

June 11, 2008 – Forrester Construction has been awarded the H. Carl Moultrie Courthouse/ Indiana Avenue Entrance Renovation in Washington, DC. This project will involve the demolition and renovation of five vestibule entrances and expansion of the lobby area. The project will be complex because the courthouse, which has the highest volume of foot traffic in the country, will remain in operation throughout construction. The courthouse is open six days a week and on all holidays.

H. Carl Moultrie Courthouse

The Owner is the District of Columbia Courts and the Owner’s Representative is Charron Consulting of Dulles, VA. The architect is Zivic & Hurdle Architects of Fairfax, Virginia. Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-September 2008 and finish the end of March, 2009.

Award Winning Safety Program

May 28, 2008 – Forrester Construction recently received its fourth consecutive Associated Builders and Contractors STEP Platinum Safety Award. The Platinum STEP (Safety Training and Evaluation Process) is the highest safety award given by each local chapter in recognition of a superior safety program.

The self evaluation must be validated by our insurance company before submission and measures twenty key components including: Management Commitment, EMR/Loss Ratio, Pre-Planning for Safety, Employee Orientation, Safety Training and Meetings, PPE, and recordkeeping. Forrester will compete in the National Safety Excellence Awards in 2009 based on our local recognition.

Vida Fitness – Metropole, Washington, DC

May 22, 2008 – Forrester Construction has begun construction on Vida Fitness – Metropole located at 15th St, NW in Washington, DC. This project involves the build-out of a four-level, 23,000 SF full service fitness center and spa. The new facility will include a large atrium/reception area, lounge area with wi-fi, health bar, full service salon, spa treatment rooms, two saunas, steam room, tanning rooms, aerobic and spinning studio, and administrative office space.

High-end finishes include glass and mosaic tile, pebbled river rock in the locker room showers, exposed ceilings, skylights, and Brazilian cherry and mahogany millwork. In addition, two adjacent endless pools will be installed on the bottom floor. The architect is Stoneking/ von Storch of Charlottesville, VA. Construction began on May 1, 2008 and is scheduled to finish in October, 2008.

Housing Opportunities Commission Shared Facilities Building, Rockville, MD

May 14, 2008 – Forrester Construction has been awarded the Housing Opportunities Commission Shared Facilities Building in Rockville, Maryland. This project will involve the construction of a new wood frame building to house the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless Safehaven Program and the Community Ministries of Rockville Chase Partnership Program.

The Housing Opportunites Commission of Montgomery County provides affordable housing and supportive services for low and moderate-income families and individuals throughout the county. The Owner’s Representative is Housing Opportunities & Concepts of Kensington, MD and the Architect is JSA Architects of Washington, DC. Construction will begin this month and finish in October of 2008.
