Old Dominion Boat Club

Founded in July 1880, the Old Dominion Boat Club is located on the Potomac River waterfront. The club combines physical fitness and sport with a social atmosphere. For this project, Forrester Construction built a new four-story, 14,828 square foot clubhouse and parking lot on the former Beachcomber site at the base of Prince Street in Alexandria, Virginia.

The new facility combines athletic and communal spaces accommodating both sporting and social activities. On the ground floor, the nautical style building features a main lobby, storage, locker rooms, and showers. The upper levels are for gatherings with a social room, a kitchen, the members’ boardroom, a multipurpose space, the boat club’s offices and a prep kitchen. Forrester also built out support areas, restrooms, elevator lobbies and outdoor spaces on each floor. The third-floor roof deck, which also houses mechanical equipment, showcases sweeping views of the river. In the brick-paver parking lot, colored concrete with oyster shell aggregate and historic granite markets continue the clubhouse’s nautical motif.
