Shady Grove Aquilino Cancer Center | Multiple Projects

For this project Forrester Construction built a three-story cancer treatment facility for Shady Grove Aquilino Cancer Center  Forrester also built-out some spaces within the building, including the Lymphedema Center. On the grounds of Shady Grove Adventist Hospital Named for its primary donor, the Aquilino Cancer Center, is Montgomery County’s first community-based, free-standing, comprehensive cancer care facility.

The 51,000 SF building houses the most advanced technology to fight a range of cancers including radiation facilities featuring multiple linear accelerator vaults. The center also offers an array of resources tailored to the needs of cancer patients such as a wig and prosthetics shop, an education library, support groups, nutrition counseling and cooking demonstrations.

The Lymphedema center includes a cafeteria, an information library, a demonstration kitchen and navigators’ offices. The center’s interior features calming earth colors and a stone wall that frames a fireplace in the two-story lobby area. The radiology and oncology wing includes a waiting room, changing rooms, CIT/CT scanners, linacs and HDR.

The LEED™ Silver certified facility has a green roof and large windows, which illuminate spaces with natural light.
