Shady Grove Aquilino Cancer Center | Multiple Projects

Named for its primary donor, the Aquilino Cancer Center is Montgomery County’s first community-based, free-standing, comprehensive cancer care facility. For this project Forrester built a three-story cancer treatment facility on the grounds of Shady Grove Adventist Hospital and also built-out some spaces within the building, including the Lymphedema Center.

The 51,000 SF building houses the most advanced technology to fight a range of cancers including radiation facilities featuring multiple linear accelerator vaults. The center also offers an array of resources tailored to the needs of cancer patients such as a wig and prosthetics shop, an education library, support groups, nutrition counseling and cooking demonstrations.

The Lymphedema center includes a cafeteria, an information library, a demonstration kitchen and navigators’ offices. The center’s interior features calming earth colors and a stone wall that frames a fireplace in the two-story lobby area. The radiology and oncology wing includes a waiting room, changing rooms, CIT/CT scanners, linacs and HDR.

The LEED™ Silver certified facility has a green roof and large windows, which illuminate spaces with natural light.
