Prince George’s Community College | Lanham Hall

Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) is the number one choice of county’s residents for undergraduate education as well as job training. Forrester Construction renovated and expanded Lanham Hall located on the college’s Largo campus. Construction spanned 92,500 square feet upgrading the existing 1970s era building to meet programmatic needs. Mainly, the project provided additional capacity and consolidated services for the school’s workforce development and continuing education programs. It also enlarged PGCC’s print shop and provided safe, secure and adequate space for their Middle College High School partnership.

To achieve these objectives, Forrester’s team developed a plan to selectively demolish specific areas while preserving essential façade elements in others. A new steel frame addition was built west of the original structure, and the entire building was clad in curtain wall and aluminum exterior panels. The scope of work also included replacing mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, site work and landscaping improvements. The LEED™ Silver facility now consists of an elliptical lecture hall, classrooms, administrative and support spaces.

During the project, Forrester partnered with PGCC and others on-site to publish a quarterly newsletter keeping the college community informed of construction progress. The project team also hosted interns from the arechitecture, engineering and construction programs and organized several site tours for faculty, staff, students, and donors.
