Columbia Heights Community Center

Located on Girard Street in Northwest DC, the Columbia Heights Community Center was commissioned by the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) as part of the planned redevelopment of the neighborhood. For this project Forrester Construction built a new four-story building to house community center programs and DPR administrative offices. It includes a state-of-the-art gymnasium, a dance studio, exercise and weight-training rooms, computer labs, a theatrical stage, a library and a culinary arts studio.

This LEED™ Silver certified facility includes a number of sustainable elements. A reflective rooftop with permanent planters reduces energy consumption, storm-water runoff and demand for potable water. The building also features dormered skylights and made extensive use of low-VOC, recycled and renewable materials.
