National Institutes of Health | Building 4
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is the federal government’s primary agency responsible for biomedical and health related research. For this project Forrester completed the phased renovation of the first and second floors of Building 4 on NIH’s Bethesda campus.
These BSL 2 & 3 laboratories now include equipment rooms, cold rooms, LAN rooms, tissue culture rooms, office space for researchers, administrative support areas, conference rooms and a central lobby. All mechanical, electrical and telecommunication systems were replaced and the building’s exterior was fully restored. A LEED™ Gold certified facility, the project was completed with an environmentally friendly adaptive reuse approach to minimize construction waste and conserve energy.
